It's That Time of Year Again: New Year Resolutions

We are fast approaching the end of 2018, and before we know it, we'll be belting out Auld Lang Syne and welcoming in the new year. But, the end of the year also signifies a reflection upon 2018, and a time to make some new year resolutions.


Will you be making any this year? Yeah we all get tired of the 'NEW YEAR NEW ME' sayings that get flung around at the beginning of January, but many people like the idea of wiping the slate clean at new year and giving themselves some goals for the year ahead. Here are some of the common ones to think about and some suggestions of how to make them work for you.


Healthier Diet

Your diet is one thing that you may want to get under control in the new year, and the likelihood is that you may have overindulged over Christmas. All the mince pies, pigs in blankets, yule log - the list goes on. Many people embark on extreme diets and find that they cannot sustain it long term, causing them to feel deflated when weight that was lost is regained. Instead focus on a balanced diet next year and try to be more mindful about what you eat.

Exercise

Getting fit is another common thing people like to do in the new year, but sometimes after feeling enthusiastic about it, you can start to feel like it is more hard work than anything else. However you can get a little bit of help so that you stick to it. It could help you start slow and begin to enjoy it, rather than taking on too much too soon.


Financial Goals

Many people make money a priority for their resolutions, wanting to achieve certain goals like buying a first car, home ownership or getting out of debt. However, the problem with these resolutions is people don't back up their goals with a plan to make it happen. This time, why not think about how you are going to save up for that car. Or how you plan on reducing debts and becoming debt free. You may be more inclined to stay on track this way.

Be Happy

Living a happier life is always going to be something people will consider as a resolution for the new year. After all, who doesn't want to be happy? But have you thought about how this happens? The truth is happiness is a mindset, so be kind to yourself and work on your mental health as well as your physical health.


Quit Bad Habits

Finally, a big one for the new year is giving up bad habits. This could be something like cutting down on the amount you smoke or drink. You may have decided that the new year is the ideal time to wipe the slate clean and to work towards giving up these bad habits.
