14 Ways to Instantly Feel More Christmassy w/ Elestras

It's 2 days until Christmas and I am beyond excited!

Christmas is definitely my favourite time of the year. If you're anything like me then you'll be feeling very Christmassy! Yes I agree that Christmas starts wayyyy too early with Christmas decorations being put up in shops and supermarkets way before Halloween, but now that it is 22nd of December it is completely acceptable to be feeling festive!

My uni house has had our Christmas decorations up for a while now (courtesy of Poundland), we've been snacking on Quality Streets and Celebration boxes, watching Christmas movies, and I've already posted quite a few festive blog posts. So yes I feel Christmassy already.

However maybe you're not exactly belting out Mariah Carey whilst scoffing your face with a mince pie sat on the sofa watching Elf yet, and you're after a little bit of Christmas inspiration?

As you've probably seen already, this post is very special as my friend Maddy Salgado (Elestras) has created some beautiful illustrations for this post. She's so talented, and her artwork is amazing so make sure you check out other pieces of her work and give her a follow on Instagram.

So anyway here are 14 ways to feel instantly more Christmassy...

1. Put your Christmas Decorations Up

If you haven't got them up yet - do it now! I know some people that wait until Christmas Eve to put all their decorations up and I'm like whyyyy… Decorating your house is the very first thing that will get you in the Christmas mood!! Get that tree up, and whack out that tinsel and twinkly lights.

2. Watch Christmas Movies

One of the best things about Christmas are the movies! A strong family tradition in our house, with my family's huge collection of Christmas classics. Of course, you have the festive films that everyone loves each year, for example Elf and Love Actually - guaranteed to put you in the festive spirit! However below are some other Christmas films that I would definitely recommend.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Christmas with The Kranks
The Polar Express
The Nightmare Before Christmas
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
The Grinch
Home Alone (and 2 and 3)
The Santa Clause (and 2 and 3)
The Holiday
Arthur Christmas

3. A Christmas Market (or two)

One of my favourite things to do at Christmas, and the ultimate experience to get you in to the Christmas spirit, is going to a Christmas Market! Enjoying mulled wine or hot chocolate whilst walking through twinkling stalls selling all sorts of Christmassy gifts. Whether you head to the big Winter Wonderland in London, or just your local market in town, or on campus at uni, they are so much fun - go to them all because why not!?

4. Christmas Music

The two Ms - Mariah Cary and Michael Bublé. The ultimate Christmas playlist should be something that you already have prepared on your Spotify, or you can always dig out your Christmas Classics Album from the loft and singalong to all the Christmas bangers!

5. Donate to Charities

It's important at this time of year in particular to be grateful and to give to others. It's lovely to donate money to a charity of your choice, or to donate food, blankets and warm clothes to food banks and homeless charities. A great way to help someone else feel more Christmassy this season!

6. Christmas Outfits

The classic Christmas Jumper is a festive must-have. Ok yes they look awful and almost all of them feel itchy, but they are a tradition. If you're after something comfier and cosier then treat yourself to some Christmassy pyjamas!

7. Christmas Candles

There are soooo many delicious candles to burn this Christmas. Whether you're after a sweet gingerbread fragrance or a fruit yfestive berry, there are so many to enjoy!

8. Christmas Shopping

It's that time of the year where the shops are RAM PACKED with people. However one of my favourite things to do is to organise a Christmas Shopping Day in Central London, particularly around Bond Street and Oxford Street where the Christmas lights look so pretty! Yes it's very busy, but there's such an exciting atmosphere - plus it's great for buying all of your presents for your friends and relatives. It's a good opportunity for you to purchase yourself a few Christmas and New Year outfits too.

9. Make (and eat) Christmas Treats

Mince pies, shortbread, peppermint creams, Christmas fudge, yule log, Christmas cake, Christmas truffles, gingerbread men - there are soooo many delicious Christmas treats that you can make and of course enjoy eating too!

10. Christmas Entertainment

At Christmas time there is plenty to watch on TV, but there are so many other ways of getting a bit of Christmas entertainment this season.

Maybe one evening to get into the Christmas spirit you could get tickets for a show at the theatre, or a good old-fashioned pantomime. Or even a Christmas carol concert at your local church or somewhere else a little more special perhaps St Pauls Cathedral or Westminster Abbey if you're near London.

Another amazing experience could be going to watch a film in the festive-themed Backyard Cinema or walking through Christmas at London Zoo and Christmas at Kew Gardens.

11. Christmas Drinks

Any Christmas drinks that you love, get them down ya! Buy yourself a bottle of Bailey's or try making your own mulled wine at home. You can't go wrong with a lovely hot choc with marshmellows and whipped cream.

12. A Walk in the Woods or A Visit to the Beach

Something my family and I love to do every year is go on a woodland walk, and to visit the beach. Yes it is freezing cold, but it's so relaxing and it's nice to get a bit of fresh air after stuffing your face with food and drink. We all have our own family traditions, and one of my family's is to throw stones into the sea on the beach on Boxing Day, something my always Nana loved to do, and something I've done every year since I can remember!

13. Ice Skating

There is always one person stood at the barriers unable to move an inch on the ice... yep that person is me. I'm not much of an ice skater AT ALL but ice skating is a really nice way to get into the festive mood. Two ice rinks that I would recommend visiting are The Brighton Pavilion Ice Rink and The Canary Wharf Ice Rink.

14. Remember to do all these things with your friends and family

I hope you have felt a little Christmassier (yes that is a word) just after reading through these ideas and seeing Maddy's beautiful illustrations. Again, make sure you check out more of your artwork over on her Instagram!
